Jewels of the Kimberley - Celebrating Twenty Years

This year, Jewels of the Kimberley marked an incredible milestone - 20 years of artistry, craftsmanship, and storytelling through jewellery.  

What began as the dream of our founder and Master Artisan Jodi Penfold has grown into a renowned name in jewellery, recognised for meticulous craftsmanship and unique designs that celebrate both individuality and the natural wonders of the Kimberley.

From Humble Beginnings to an Icon of Craftsmanship

When Jodi moved to Broome in 2002, she was captivated by the raw beauty of the region - its rare pink and champagne diamonds, luminous pearls, and rich mineral treasures. Just a few years later, she brought her vision to life by opening Jewels of the Kimberley in 2005.

From the very beginning, Jodi’s philosophy has been clear: jewellery should be more than just an accessory. Every creation is designed to carry meaning, tell a story, and become part of someone’s journey. This belief continues to shape every piece that leaves the studio today, with cherished clients - many now part of the Jewels of the Kimberley family - bringing their own stories and memories to each design.

Jodi’s commitment to her craft has taken her from Broome to Belgium, where she trained under one of the world’s most skilled diamond setters - an achievement held by only a handful of Australians. Combined with her recognition as one of Australia’s top gemmologists, her exceptional expertise ensures that every Jewels of the Kimberley piece is a true work of art.

A Lifelong Dedication to Craft and Storytelling

Every piece that comes to life in our Broome studio reflects Jodi’s meticulous attention to detail - from sketching inspirations drawn from nature, to engineering designs with precision, to carefully setting each gem by hand. The result is jewellery that is as unique and enduring as the Kimberley landscape itself.

“Inspiration for a piece can come from anything,” Jodi says. “it can be as simple as seeing a shape in nature and transforming it into a unique design, or as difficult as waking in the middle of the night and attempting to draw images from a dream before they vanish.”

This dedication ensures that each piece is not only beautiful, but also deeply personal - a reflection of both the artisan’s vision and the wearer’s story.
